Apparently the sandwich was invented in 1762 by the Earl of Sandwich so that he didn't have to leave the gaming table to go and eat his lunch. 

This is TM's lunch today - a ham roll, accompanied by oven roasted tomatoes (home grown), pretzels and wasabi peas.  His own invention, 2021 .....

I know that technically this isn't a sandwich, but a filled roll. But I'm hoping it's close enough for today's Mono Monday Challenge, an 18 Century invention.
