Life from city to village

Pompeii

Today has been amazing. We went to Pompeii and had a guide take us round. It was fascinating, and I learned so much about the city and what happened when it was finally destroyed - while in the process of being rebuilt following a catastrophic earthquake.

We then went to a vineyard for wine tasting and lunch on the slopes of Vesuvius, where they grow a unique grape suited to the soil there.

In the afternoon we drove to Oplonti, and saw the remains of the seaside villa for Emperor Nero and his second wife Poppea. Not all has been excavated (its surrounded and built over by apartment buildings, but what there was was superb.
