Fieldfare, Maybe - Redwing, Actually!
One of those days that almost impossible to choose my blip...went for a long walk in Sutton Park, but even before we got there, an amazingly huge icicle hanging off the railway bridge, shining in the sun, but looking extremely dangerous. P tried to knock it down, but almost broke the streetlamp, so decided to leave it. And then, golden and purple crocuses in the snow.
As soon as we entered the Park, this bird hopping around on the grass - which we think is a fieldfare - a type of thrush that spends the winter here and is presumably going north. Decided to put him as my blip after finding out they are on the RSPB red list for conservation, which means they are globally threatened, and have declined by at least 50% in the UK in the last 25 years. (Been told now it's a redwing, but still on red list, and still a thrush - the UK's smallest.)
What I really wanted to see were the wild ponies, so we walked all the way over to Bracebridge, and suddenly - there were five of them eating holly in the sunshine - what a gift!
