Left-Handed Lament...

First and foremost, thank you for all the lovely congratulatory comments on yesterday's photo. To tell the truth, I was (once again) clueless! Therefore, no clever photo to commemorate my 500th.

Today was another busy runaround type of day. We went up to Rochester for a couple of appointments and found ourselves there until late afternoon. As we were heading back to our house, I discovered a little bag of sunflower seeds I had left in a pocket of the car door.

I asked Husband if we could stop at a park along the way home and he was accommodating. Not so much Son and Daughter, who merely groaned. The only problem with this scene is that since we took the "small car", I left all my cameras at home. Carrying a bulky camera bag along with four people, a Scottie Dog, and various odds and ends....well, you get the picture. (Pun not intended!)

Since Children were in less than jovial mood, I silently clutched said bag of seeds and headed into the woods where the birds hang out. The path was muddy and not at all inviting, but the last remnants of a rather lovely day, complete with blue sky, made the trek worthwhile.

As I trudged along, discouraged that I would not be able to take any photos, I was thrilled that at least a little bird might light upon my hand and take a seed. I cherish this thought....almost like a sacred glimpse into the Garden of Eden.

Suddenly, it dawned on me that I had my cell phone which has a halfway decent camera! Encouragement began to flood my soul until I then realized that it would be pretty hard to take a photo while holding the seeds in my hand. Yet another dilemma!

As for the left-handed lament, well....although the camera (along with much of life, actually) seems biased for right-handed operation, I thought I could make this work.

I placed seeds in my right hand, planted the cell phone into my arm and held as still as I could. Chickadees suddenly emerged and began calling out above my head. I looked up and at one point, there were four birds looking down at my curious setup!

Mission accomplished, although my greater lament is that the event was not recorded with a better camera. Ah well. I certainly did have a bird in the hand!!!
