Avon Viaduct, Linlithgow

A constant drizzle over 5 hours didn't get in the way or enjoyment of the Saturday Strollers monthly walk!  We piled on the train to Linlithgow then made our way along the canal as far as the Avon Aqueduct.  By this point we'd added waterproof over trousers to our ensemble!

Going in the opposite direction to us were the hardy participants in the 56 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh ultra run.  They still had 20 miles to go when they passed.  Kudos!

We walked back towards Linlithgow on the River Avon Hermitage trail The Avon Viaduct at the end of the trail carries the railway over the river.  The 23 arch bridge was built between 1839 and 1841 by John Miller for the Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway.  It's 404 metres long and 27 metres high.   It provided an excellent spot to shelter from the rain and have our packed lunch!

Back in Linlithgow we walked round the loch which gave great views of the Palace.  My watch made it about 17km all in.

Coffee and cake in The Granary to finish off the day nicely.
