Fading Growing Season

The community orchard, which is in part of the meadow where we walk Merlin most days.

The trees vary in ages, from around 4 to 7 years and comprise apple, cherry and plum varieties. There is a small information board showing the layout of the orchard and displaying plaques with details of those to whom some of the trees are dedicated.

We had a dull and slightly damp start to the day but as you can see from this photo the sun greeted us on our late afternoon walk and created such a calming and warm atmosphere.

Aside from dog walking, we’ve been to the allotment to put in a few more supports for the apple and pear trees I planted in January. I’ve also ordered seed potatoes and onion sets for planting in the spring - uplifting to think of the new planting year ahead, as this growing season fades.
