We're all going on a rocket hunt

After our flu jabs, Len and I sped to Leicester to take William to the National Space Centre. He's been fascinated by all the tales of rockets on show there, the real kind, like Soyuz and other bits of satellites.

Me? I wanted to see the display of all the rockets that were in the Rockets Round Leicester trail during the summer. We saw several old favourites, such as Bogswamp and William found a new favourite (extra), a rocket disguised as a dinosaur egg hatching.

We bought merchandise and raffle tickets.'What will you do with the rocket if you win it' asked the young lady. 'Put it in my garden,' I replied, although truth is, it probably wouldn't fit in.

William wanted a  cuddly Bogswamp, ostensibly for his baby brother.

It was a perfect day for walking round outside. We bumped into Tim of Coach Mummies and Daddies Meet wheeling his latest arrival around. William asked if Thomas was named after 'Thomas the Tank Engine.' Tim laughed. We agreed that the landlord probably wouldn't want the kids back, sadly, plus both William and Lilah are at school now.

Then it was time for the Space Centre itself and a show in the planetarium called 'We Are Stars.' I don't know about the kids but I found the animated effects coming out at you from the screen a bit frightening. Plus it affected my balance a bit. 

There is SO much to see there. An afternoon doesn't do the Space Centre justice. After refreshments at the caff, we took the lift up the Rocket Tower to 'Destination Moon' from where we could look down on the top of a USAF rocket (extra). A huge curved wall is devoted to diorama of factoids, news and photos documenting the 1960s and America's journey to achieving a Man on the Moon by 1969. It brought back many memories.

I peered at a sample of moon rock that looked like a cross between basalt and green diorite.

All of a sudden, William looked rather tired and wanted to go home to see his Mummy. Len and I were feeling a bit faded too. It's a good thing that our ticket bought online entitles us to an annual pass to enter.
