The Hand of Doagh
Today's the day .................... for icons
We spent most the day not far from where we're staying, exploring the Isle of Doagh. It's actually not an island at all - more a peninsula. The land is good for cultivation with a safe anchorage for boats and there is much evidence that people have chosen to live there for a very long time.
This is the iconic Hand of Doagh sculpture created by the artist Danny O’Donnell. His work examines the symbolism and importance and ‘all that is good’ about the human hand and its importance to greet and welcome. Passing through the giant hand takes you to one of the most stunning locations and viewpoints in Donegal looking out towards the Five Finger Strand and the sand dunes at Malin across the bay with views on out to the sea and towards Ireland’s most northerly point, Malin Head.
The extra shows another iconic feature of the area - the world famous, award-winning Seafood Chowder from Nancy's Barn - that we had for supper tonight. It was mouth-wateringly delicious . . . . .
