Changing light over the Malverns
Sunday
Janet’s son Andrew, who is single and lives in Gloucester, came to join us for breakfast this morning, then he stayed and cooked the Sunday roast dinner, while Janet, Roger and I went to church - an arrangement that has been going for a number of years now, provided Andrew isn’t gallivanting off somewhere for the weekend! The church Janet goes to is a small country Methodist chapel, where she’s been going ever since she and Stuart were married. Unfortunately, this may well be the last time we worship there. Their membership has now dwindled to 6, which was the lowest number the Methodist church would support. However, at the last conference that number was raised to 10 or 12 - I forget which Janet said. At this point, they don’t know exactly what will happen, though Janet expects they will be absorbed into a Gloucester church, as many of the other country chapels have already closed. Janet, though, feels she will probably choose to switch her allegiance to the Parish church, as she would rather go to a church in the local community rather than drive about 12 minutes into Gloucester. I had meant to take a picture of the chapel for today’s blip, but we got talking to people after service and I forgot. After our Sunday lunch, Andrew had to leave, but Roger and I went out for some fresh air and exercise on the Malverns. As you can see from my collage, the skies were very changeable, and we thought we would get wet at one point, but it seemed to go around us.
Tomorrow we move on again, but we’ve had a lovely week with Janet, and I think she’s been glad of the company, since she was home alone for so long during the lockdowns, and especially having lost her dog a few months ago - she’s had a dog ever since the children were little, so it must be really strange and lonely for her. She is considering getting another dog, though not a puppy, but she’s not going to rush into it. Whilst she does miss having Wispa around, she’s also beginning to appreciate the extra freedom it gives her!
I’ve posted two entries this evening, so you may want to scroll back to see yesterday’s!
