Inventions Of The 19th Century

The electric lamp. And matches and stamps and so many more.

In 1802, Humphry Davy invented the first electric light. HE experimented with electricity and invented an electric batter. When he connected wires to his batter and a piece of carbon, the carbon glowed, producing light. His invention was known as the electric arc light.

Later(1870s) Thomas Edison and Sir Joseph Swann independently of each other, made the first electric light that could last longer than a few hours by using carbon filament in vacuum.

Thanks to Laurie 54 for hosting and making it a learning experience.
