The Science Experiment
Homework is a 'thing' now even if you are only seven and Violet was tasked with completing one from a choice of activities this week. We picked the erupting volcano project as it did seem especially relevant in light of the awful scenes from La Palma over recent weeks.
We had to begin the project on Saturday evening as the kit required the volcano first to be made from plaster of paris in a mould and then left to dry. Tonight, as this is the day that we pick up Violet from school for a sleepover, we needed to complete the experiment.. Fortified by a visit to Costa for hot chocolate and a cookie, Violet set about painting her volcano and then, the exciting bit, making the mixture which would erupt like lava. First she added baking soda with some colouring, then a couple of drops of washing up liquid, and here, the vinegar which makes the whole thing fizz and erupt!
In other news: the company making my handrails for the patio steps, popped by today to check that I was happy with the product before they complete it. The rails should be fitted next week and are going to look rather splendid.
