(285) St.Mary's Island

A fine day for getting out on the bike. This was the view from just along the coast from Whitley Bay, looking out to the North Sea behind St.Mary's island and lighthouse. The island is tidal and the causeway visible in the picture is submerged when the tide rises. Extra shots a view from the same location, looking south toward Whitley Bay and the Spanish City, and a view of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge which is a pedestrian and cyclist tilt bridge spanning the River Tyne between the Gateshead arts quarter on the south bank and the Quayside of Newcastle upon Tyne on the north bank.
