1 The Avenue, Spinningfields

A day in Manchester means there’s no shortage of geometric architecture to photograph. We’ve been regular visitors for the last 30 years, during which time the city has been constantly developing at an ever-increasing pace so that the wider city centre population has ballooned from 10,000 in  2008 to 70,000 in 2018. Office for National Statistics figures indicate that construction output in the North-west was running at 10 times the national average in 2018, making the region one of the busiest in Europe, and the city skyline certainly bears witness to this.

Yesterday’s visit to Dunham Massey was followed by a performance of the magnificent Ballet Black at The Lowry in Salford, and in extras I’ve included a sample of last night’s shots of Media City - wide, geometric and architectural, but sadly taken on the wrong day.

But today our city wanderings prior to a concert in The Bridgewater Hall give other opportunities, and I gravitate towards 1 The Avenue in Spinningfields - a quirky building that was the Manchester Armani store, but post-pandemic (can we say that now?) it’s allegedly due to become the second venture for Mayfair’s Sexy Fish restaurant. More information on the original architectural development is in the following link.

In terms of geometric shapes, its distinctive triangular structure dominates, but I also like the cubic tree planters - hence my choice of thumbnail!

Thanks for the lovely comments stars and hearts for yesterday’s autumnal deer, and apologies once more for lack of comments. We’re now back home so ‘normal’ service will hopefully be resumed!

Thanks to Steveng for hosting today’s Wide Wednesday challenge.
