Borrowdale

Today we sorted out a walk for all abilities as I am the weakest link, being less confident on steep uneven ground.  We took the 10.30 launch to Hawes End, the only place it stops now. From there we headed towards Castle Crag, taking the terrace walk above the lake, and passing the memorial stone to the author Hugh Walpole. The septuagenarian schoolboys I am with long ago renamed him Sir Hugh Walking Pole, - see extras of the tablet, and one of us taken by a random passer by. We headed into the jaws of Borrowdale, passing the campsite, and resisted the temptation to pop up Castle Crag. Excellent paths take you down to the river and a pint in the Country Inn at Langstrath. After resting for a while we walked to the crossroads and enjoyed the exhilarating ride home on the top deck of the open top bus.
