Californian Tree Poppy ( Romneya coulteri )
Another from Kanyl's garden. One of those plants which we can't grow and he, about 5 miles away, has it growing like a weed. It keeps popping up in his lawn and made its way about 3m (12ft)into next doors garden.
This flower is a little late the normal flowering period is July, August and September. There are still buds appearing on his plant. As the name suggests it is native to California. It can grow to 2m (7ft) but his specimen is about 1,5m (5ft).
The name is interesting. It is named after two Irish men Dr Coulter an botanist and an astronomer Thomas Romney Roberts. They were friends and appropriately the plant first flowers in "captivity" in Ireland.
