Magnolia . .

. . . . seed head.
I can't say I have ever noticed the seed head of a magnolia before, but they are rather intricate. The seeds are housed in individual pods, are bright red and held in by tiny filaments, which probably dry and then allow the seed to fall.
The two trees in the garden are full of these seed heads so I guess there were a lot of flowers early in the spring.
It is hot (for me) again though today we do have some clouds in the sky
