The clamberer

Mr Perkins was in one of his moods today.

I picked Mr Perkins up for a cuddle. He looked up at the top of the door that I was standing next to. I held him up a little, and he scrambled up onto the top of the door.

He stood there thinking he was clever till he realised he was stuck. He looked at me like he does when he wants to be down from his ‘cat flap’. I couldn’t reach high enough to get him down safely.

We had to do yet another Covid test – lateral flow this time – more on that tomorrow. It involved a lot of crinkling, which drew the attention of Mr Perkins. He was mad keen to investigate, but we were being hygienic, so we didn’t let him sniff.

The test cartridges were sitting on the kitchen island while the samples flowed laterally along them, and we tidied up the crinkly gubbins. Mr Perkins could bear it no longer and took matters into his own paws: he jumped up onto the island.

We were having some mince pies because two boxes ‘mysteriously’ appeared in my shopping trolley yesterday. Mr Perkins was alerted by the crinkling of the foil.

Mr Perkins tried to get some of Mr Pandammonium’s, but he was too slow. So he went on the coffee table, where the packet was, and licked one.
