Loss

This afternoon, we had the funeral and thanksgiving for Elbows’ uncle.

Elbows read the Eulogy on behalf of his aunt and their 2 lovely sons. It was a beautiful service and there was so much joy and thanksgiving for him as a wonderful man, who suffered a lot but oozed kindness to others all the time. I certainly knew that kindness.

But just as Elbows was about to get up and go to the front during the service, we got the news that a dear friend and ex colleague had been stabbed multiple times.

It was a gobsmacking shock. Poor Elbows. After the service, we learnt that he’d died.

David Amess. A friend. Elbows had travelled to Rome and Cyprus with him; had worked on countless campaigns and votes, had messaged each other over 30 years and supported each other through some pretty painful stuff. I had worked with him too, to open a Youth Centre many years ago, even before Elbows and I got married. I loved his warmth and welcome every time I saw him. He was unique in that way.

His poor family and close friends. How shocking for them. How very very very sad.
