University Day
- Backblip -
Today was the Higher Education Conference day at Reading University. I was quite scared about getting lost and not being able to find anyone I knew, and having to sit in lectures all by myself! ... but actually everything turned out really well and I quite enjoyed the day.
My first worry was finding the place where my school had to meet up for registration. Fortunately, I was able to find it quite easily - literally map reading whilst walking! And I ended up getting there half an hour early! - So nobody else was there!! However, some more people arrived quite soon so I wasn't wondering about for too long.
Next we had lectures to go to on different courses that you could take at university. We had the option of going to 3 lectures in the morning, however, I only went to 2. For the first lecture I was on my own. I managed to find the building but then it was rather difficult actually finding the right entrance and then the right room! Once I was in the room I sat down and gradually more and more people came in - mainly in groups of friends so everyone was whispering and giggling and stuff and I was generally feeling rather lonely and uncomfortable when I heard someone whisper 'Hannah, Hannah!' so I turned around and who should be there but my cousin! So I went and sat with her which was really nice. The talk was on social work and care. I decided by the end of the talk that I do not want to be a social worker! At least that's one option gone! The trouble is, there are so many possibilities of things you can do that I just can't decide on which thing!
Anyway, after that I went back to the building where we had registered and met up with a few friends who also didn't have a second lecture to go to. We just sat around for a while until the third lecture.
My next lecture was on Nursing and Midwifery. There were some people I knew in this one so it was okay! And quite interesting. There are a lot more different types of nursing than I realised!
It was then lunchtime so we went back to our registration building and then sat around for ages and ages and ages! This was because in the afternoon we had the opportunity to go to the sports hall where there were loads of universities giving out prospectuses and stuff, however, different schools had allocated times to be allowed to go in and our time wasn't until 2:45pm, and so we had 2 hours to wait! It was quite long, but eventually we got to go to the hall and I just picked up a few prospectuses for universities that had courses to do with health/children etc.
Generally quite a good day. It was interesting to do something different. I'm not sure if I really want to go to university or not, but it has got me thinking more about the different options available!
