Dusk
The first email I found in my inbox this morning was from Parliament’s head of security last night. Nothing dramatic – just a reminder of the “let’s be careful out there” theme.
Certainly we had an open door policy until March ’20. No appointment was required. But if we were in the office alone, the door was to stay shut and locked.
I can remember one incident when I had to deal very “robustly” with a visitor who stepped across the invisible line. I also remember a couple of times when I was paying very close attention to colleagues while they were dealing with visitors, ready to intervene or call the police right away.
Of course the town has always been a hotbed of political intrigue, so I guess we have learned to take things in our stride.

Nonetheless, it did make for a sombre day.
I had to cross the water after work to deal with a minor matter - well I hope it was minor - and got my Blip as I walked past the Hampton by Hilton. It is closed, in spite of the bright lights. The nearby Moxy is open, as is the Doubletree, so all is not lost. Yet.
