Memorial
When our friend Richard Robson, long known and loved in this community as Lo Jardinier, heard the news of Palesa's death, and that her name meant "flower," he immediately looked up the name of a nursery in Portland and sent a gift certificate for Autumn Crocuses, a fall-flowering member of the lily family. Today we dug a trench in Sue's back yard and planted them. A perfect memorial.
The Holy Family nuns who ran the school in Lesotho that Palesa attended for a couple of years nicknamed her "Lily." I never knew why. Richard didn't know this when he sent the bulbs. The universe loves its synchronicity.
He blipped an autumn crocus himself some years ago. It's where saffron comes from.
