Spectacular island lunch
We tried to come out here on the lagoon island of Torcello when we were here two years ago but the weather was terrible and it all seemed somewhat hazardous. So we booked for today and it was utterly magical. The sun shone and although we missed the first ferry out we got there in good time and had a delicious magical lunch in the garden. I ate prosciutto with baked figs followed by a vegetable risotto and it was all wonderful
After lunch we walked round the Basilica Santa Maria Assumpta which had two walls of breathtaking 12th Century mosaics one of which was indeed the Virgin Mary ascending against a wall of gold mosaic. It was breathtaking. No photos allowed so I’ll have to go online for the memories.
Long queu to come back in the ferry and on Burano, the half way island we queued for over an hour which gave me an opportunity to buy some beautiful handmade lace and lavender bags for presents. Finally got a ferry back through a blazing sunset. Night cap and bruschetti in the square to finish the evening.
