Adler 81

Twentieth century inventions brings up a wealth of possibilities, including the pocket calculator.

This is one of the very first, which we bought in Japan in 1973.  It was on our first trip with Shell tankers after we were married.  We were flown out to Yokohama to join the SS Gadinia, the first of the gas carriers.  I was one of the first relief  engineers after she was commissioned in the cold waters of the English Channel.  We had a lot of trouble with cooling in the waters near Borneo.  (A lot of ‘firsts’ there I see.)

As you can see the Adler 81 is still working.

On the COVID front, granddaughter Kaitlyn has proved positive, but the rest of the family have come back clear - for the moment.  Theoretically Pam should be ok as she has antibodies from being on the vaccine trials, but there can be no guarantee.

After having another ‘go at’ Times Radio this morning they are making me pay by being interviewed at 07.15 tomorrow morning.  They may not get me out of bed . . .  Just been updated to 08.45!   After being interviewed in June it’s a little less daunting this time round.  This morning they were covering the very subjects I/we have been discussing/ranting about over the last few days.

Many thanks again to Laurie54 for hosting this month’s very interesting Mono Mondays.
