St Richard’s Walk
A very agreeable morning walking 3 of the 4 quadrant walks around Chichester. What a fascinating city, chock full of old buildings, quiet corners and more history than anyone deserves.
The cathedral was splendid, full of begowned people having taken part in their degree ceremony. The extra is part of the Tudor wall which surrounds the Bishop’s Gardens.
From there we walked a little way along the Chichester Ship Canal, an arm of a much greater canal system linking Portsmouth to London which was never successful.
After a sweltering morning in the city we travelled the short distance to Bosham for a short stroll around the village, harbour and shoreline. A very flavourful cup of tea helped wash down a huge piece (even when shared) of Dundee cake at the Shoreline cafe.
Fortunately, the tide was out, leaving a vast expanse of intertidal mud and seaweed with beleaguered boats left high and dry. Signs said that the seafront road was covered by water at high tide.
The was just enough time to call in at Dell Quay which is supposed to be spectacular, except on a dull afternoon wasn’t as great as it would have been in mid summer.
We had a pint there, contemplated eating there, deciding in the end to have a picnic in the hotel bedroom!
