Discovery

It was not a blow
to discover that the moon
is not that different to the earth.

There are fewer people here
(in fact, none)
but it is just as cold.

I like that it is less alien than anticipated
though I do fume
when I think about all the lies we've been told
regarding the moon.

As I've said,
it is a surprisingly familiar territory.

There are trees
(which I don't know the names of)
and even the odd bird.

Well, one.
Keeping a safe distance.
Flying alone.

Perhaps this moon bird will surprise me?
Maybe it will land?
Maybe it will speak to me
in a language I can understand?

I hope so.
I am covinced one could go loony here
with only a single bird

for company.
