White Day

White Day is celebrated on the 14th of March here in Japan. Valentine's Day is solely for women to give gifts to men...and it certainly isn't a exclusive as in the West. Women give chocolates or gifts to husbands, brothers, coworkers...any male is a candidate. White Day was created so men could reciprocate the generosity of women the month before, and it's expected that they do. Although it isn't as romantic as the Valentine's Day I've come to know in England, I do enjoy being showered with sweet gifts. Having been single for every Valentine's Day I've lived through, Japanese traditions certainly ensure that everyone is included! Also note the adorable messages on the sweets - "This is a present from my heart" and "Our cookie's will speak tenderly of softness and flavour to your heart." Lovely.
