Project 365 day 293: Gum Tree

When P returned from his very wet morning walk, he told me I would want to walk along the road later to photograph the gum tree; so after lunch, in a break between showers with a few brief moments of sunshine, I did. I also picked up some leaves for J to press. She and her PA opened the flower press today, and the leaves from our walk a couple of weeks ago have pressed beautifully. They experimented with photos on the light box to start developing ideas for a little animation, and created some really attractive images.

This morning I cut up a small Crown Prince squash and a small Becky pumpkin, and P made our first squash soup of the autumn - a delicious lunch.

There is a growing clamour from the NHS and scientific community for the UK government to do something to stem the rising number of Covid infections - now approaching 50,000 a day, with well over 800 deaths a week. The government is stubbornly maintaining its fiction that life has more or less returned to normal, determined not to deprive anyone of the freedom to breathe their germs over their fellow shoppers or passengers. The statistics for the rest of Europe are considerably better, but once again we must wait until far too late for any kind of response. Meanwhile, the Brazilian senate is calling for Bolsonaro to be charged with crimes against humanity for the hundreds of thousands of deaths which have resulted from his mismanagement of the pandemic.
