Whitlam Woods
This may be the last Indian Summer day, so we headed to Hambden Township in northern Geauga County farmland to visit Whitlam Woods for the first time. We were the only people there. It obviously doesn't get much traffic being out in the boonies. 187 acres bisected by deep ravines of two streams that flow into Big Creek. Although it's touted as having a mature beech-maple forest, we also saw a number of (plain) hickories, Bigtooth Aspen (above), buckthorn, and witchhazel. There wasn't much change in color yet, except amongst the tallest of trees in the canopy. There was a deep layer of dry brown leaves on the forest floor. It was a lovely place.
On the way home, we stopped in Chardon and decided to have dinner outside at a restaurant on the square across from the courthouse where we were joined in wedded bliss. We enjoyed a nice dinner and entertaining people at the next table and walking on the sidewalk.
Heard today: "Your past is a life lesson, not a life sentence."
Thanks for visiting.
