The Lady
(Madera Canyon back blip)
Yesterday I posted the magnificently colored male Rivoli's hummingbird. Today, you get the Missus. The females of every hummingbird species are a lot more dull than their fellas, just like every other bird in the world (and a lot of other critters). What makes this female stand out from females of other species is its large size, very heavy white line behind and under the eye, and aqua-colored throat. Here she's coming in for a soft landing.
