The Scottish Ten...
...is a project that uses cutting edge 3D digital technology to create accurate models of all 5 of Scotland's World Heritage Sites, and five international sites, for their preservation. It is a high definition survey method using lasers that record points up to 50,000 times per second to create a 'point cloud' of 3D data, which defines the surface of the object. I don't even begin to understand it, but I think that the point cloud digital images are pieces of artwork in themselves, and in the photo you can see the New Lanark image in the foreground, St Kilda to the left and Mount Rushmore to the right.
The point cloud data goes through various stages, which are explained more fully for anyone interested on the Scottish Ten website and high res. photos taken during fieldwork are then used to produce a photo-realistic rendered model.
New Lanark was the first of the ten sites to be completed and the 'fly through' is the first to be released. Soon it should be available on the website and on New Lanark's - I hoped it would be there today!
The other thing I found out is that the Cabinet Minister Mike Russell is a blipper! here is his blip from yesterday!
Huge thanks to everyone for dropping by yesterday and for all your lovely comments. what a great bunch you all are!
