An ancient skill...

from the country.

Good to see the local farmer is laying his hedges this year. I have been watching a man working on all the hedges recently.. before the latest snow. They look so lovely when they are all tidied up and good to know that the sheep will not be escaping through this one for a while.

I didn't know that in different areas of the country there are different styles of laying the hedge. Around here apparently the most common is called Bullock Style.. where they lay the hedge at an angle towards the stock field (away from the road perhaps) with the tops (brush) laid on the stock side to prevent the cattle from eating the new shoots. Then the top binding is woven below the top of the hedge to stop the bullocks levering it off with their horns.

Good to be back in the country after yesterdays jaunt!!
