New compost heap
My biggest achievements on the allotment tend to be projects I've had in my head for months and that I finally finish.
I'd built my old compost heap out of pallets 4 years ago and the bottom section had started rotting so it needed replaced.
I decided to redo it and position it closer to the path (as, 4 years later, I can finally stay on top of the couch grass that had invaded the compost when I took on the plot). Also I thought replacing the vine (which I've gifted a friend) with a loganberry that needed a structure would give me an opportunity to improve my fruit training skills.
So this is the new compost heap: bigger, taller, with four posts and wire to train next year's new shoots.
And today was my lucky day as the allotment had just had a delivery of lovely looking bark.
I'm so pleased with the result and can't wait for next spring. The loganberry will doubtless enjoy the richness of the soil!
