Seasonal Porch Decor

The yellow one came from the neighbor across the street. He has a whole row of them next to his driveway and didn't plant any of them. He just told us that he and his husband have bought a house in San Francisco and are moving next month. We will miss them....
The bumpy orange one came from our garden. We didn't plant it either.

My friend Tobi says these volunteer squash were probably cross pollinated with something else in our garden, but I can't think what...cucumbers? Zucchini?

John brought the smooth orange one home from the grocery store and I do like the colors together. More people will see them on this site than will come to our door....They're not exactly flowers but there aren't very many of those left right now so a little seasonal color will have to do for Flower Friday. Thanks as always to Biker Bear for keeping this challenge going for so long....

It's been a mixed day of clouds and sun. It was quite overcast this morning when we took Spike out for his early morning constitutional but it wasn't particularly cold and it didn't rain. We have discovered a place where he is supposed to be on a leash but if we go early in the morning there is nobody there. He never stopped running...up and down hills, through the underbrush  poison oak and even over a tree which had fallen across the trail. Spike is the poster child for why there should be places other than dismal dog parks where dogs can run free. No matter how far he runs, he always comes back as soon as we call him....the first dog we've ever had who could be relied upon to do this.

I spent the afternoon making a new cushion for our Orkney chair and experimenting with placement of my sewing machine on its rolling cart to take advantage of the light and the view from the window without blocking the floor space. I don't know if I have solved that problem but I have a nice new cushion for the chair.

Torrential rains predicted for tomorrow night through Monday. I'm still not complaining but really, do they have to start talking about floods? our local news channel now features a segment called Storm Watch. It used to just be called rain... Just a week ago they were still talking about drought. Apparently it isn't news unless its a disaster.
