Glen Cinema Disaster

On Hogmanay (31st Dec) 1929 the cinema was packed with children. Smoke was seen in the projection room. Panic ensued and for some reason one of the exits was locked. Drs and nurses who were off duty rushed to the hospital to help with the casualties. However 71 children died and this memorial was erected in Hawkhead Cemetry to their memory.
