The Fair's in Town
Every year since 1554 there has been a Charter Fair in Buckingham. The first Charter was granted by Mary Tudor in 1554 and then another by Charles II in 1664.
So every October the fair arrives for two weekends in a row. They set up on the Friday night, the fair opens at 1pm on Saturday and then they pack up. On Sunday morning it's like they were never here!
I worked in the shop this afternoon and Oh. My. God!!! A customer came in and was there for about three hours on and off buying things for a bar/restaurant he's opening in Stockport. An aviation/Rock music theme!!! He bought enormous planes which I had to get down (just what the doctor ordered after my injection!!), model helicopters, signs, framed Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Paul Weller posters/tickets/records/photos. All accompanied by a million questions: What's Bomber Command (on a sign he'd bought), Why are they on that zebra crossing? What's Abbey Road? Why does Paul McCartney have no shoes on? Who are they (The Faces - I told him to stick with the Beatles and Paul Weller!!), Are they dead? Who shot John Lennon? Why? What's Catcher in the Rye about? And on and on and on!!!!
He was very nice but it was exhausting!
He kept paying for things in dribs and drabs and taking them to his car. Then he came to pay the big balance on all the framed pictures and the payment wouldn't go through. Not declined, just the machine not putting it through. He was using his phone, had no other means to pay, then his phone died so he couldn't do a bank transfer and OMFG.
He'll be back next week apparently to pay and collect the rest of his things. Yay!!!!!
So I was in a bit of a daze walking home through the fair. And then slumped on the sofa feeling as though I've just done a 20-hour shift down the mine. I may be a little bit pathetic!!
