Walking along Horns Road in the late afternoon

Backblipping.

Retracing my steps on the way home after a short walk up The Horns valley. The wall on the right is the boundary of an old coppice woodland next to where the Victorian 'Old 'cemetery was established. The wood had been used in those times as material for the lime kilns in the quarries sited about forty yards up the steep slope, where one of many limestone strata are exposed. The quarry became the site of a coalyard in the mid-Twentieth century, but now that business has nearly disappeared. The metalled road ends about a hundred yards behind this spot, but the ancient footpath continues up to the top of the valley, about half a mile away.

To the left the meadows have become paddocks for grazing of the horses stabled at Horns Farm, which used to be the sight of the local dairy, with local delivery by electric vehicle. The farm closed to become a riding stable towards the end of the last century.
