jeni and the beans

Playdough fun

We have had one full day today. Steve was up and gone very early, we got kisses goodbye at about 6am or something. Unfortunately that somehow led to the boys both deciding that it was time to get up before 7am. (At least an hour and a half too early for our normal standard.)

So, we were up and dressed, and the boys were fed at least, before 9. It took me another two hours to have my breakfast, during which time I did washing up and laundry, made some kick-ass intensi-toddy to beat this cold into submission, we had some playdough storytelling fun, some duplo fun while I cleared up the playdough, some painting fun, and then thankfully Bear fell asleep on my knee and I got to eat my breakfast. But Bean had not yet finished his painting storytelling...

So Bean was left to finish painting while I decided to try and get the Bear to transfer to the sofa to continue sleeping. Success! And only just in time. Bean had finished and wanted to get cleaned up. There were only a handful of blue handprints on the wall. So Bean did the washing up of all the painting bits we'd had out including a dinosaur, and after much water fun he settled down to watch Madagascar 2 while I cleared all the painting stuff away. And planted some bulbs in the garden. Oh the simple joy of planting bulbs in the garden in peace, even if it was a snatched five minutes.

Melty cheese on toast again for lunch, and then Bean was off to his preschool for a spring party. A pyjama party, no less! So he wore his bee onesie of which I have photos of him wearing two summers ago. And it still actually fits. Just. Unbelievable.

We stopped to chat to one of our neighbours on the way, Bean hid in my skirt, but we were offered frogspawn if we were interested! I said we'd call in on our way home after picking Bean up after preschool :)

After getting home I muddled through a hypo while the Bear, freshly revived from his nap and his lunch, practised climbing up onto the dining chairs and requested more playdough playtime. He had a ball. He'd obviously been paying quite a lot of attention to the Bean, because his playtime was very similar! He was completely absorbed for a very long time.

Of course this meant I didn't get round to making tomorrow's bread, or preparing the sausage casserole for tea before it was time to go back out to collect the Bean. But we did remember to call in at Simon's for the frogspawn.

And it only turns out that we've been living next to a couple of playmates for the Bean for four years and only just got to know them.

The Bean and the Bear were both very happy boys to get to play with new toys and new friends for a whole unexpected hour!

Of course THAT meant we didn't get dinner ready before Grandma and Grandad arrived but at least we were home, if in the garden tipping out frogspawn into a bucket, and digging and climbing and getting cold.

Happy boys.

And happy me too - except the only problem with having a working camera again is the fact I'm taking more pictures which means laptop-blipping instead of tapping away on my phone in bed-blipping!!

Frogspawn in its new homes (some is inside).

New yellow playdough made ready for Easter chick playtime (googly eyes and feathers!).

Dinner made.

Living room tidy again.

Boys in bed, at last.

Bear completely unable to stay asleep without me. Again.

No bread will be made tonight.

Ah well.

Time to crochet!
