Rick Makes Land
Hurricane Rick (a category 2 storm), which was projected to pass us by, made land about 60 km north of Zihuatanejo. We knew we were in trouble around 1:30 am when the winds increased significantly and our power went out. A sleepless night followed as winds of up to 205 kph (according to various websites) lashed our area. Needless to say, damage was widespread with many, many tree limbs blown down along with entire trees uprooted. No loss of life, fortunately, and everyone was out cleaning up the next morning as the rain continued to fall. By 1:00 pm our power was back (although not everywhere in town) and the rains had stopped. I have long wondered what a hurricane would be like, now I know and have no need to experience one ever again.
Posting and commenting maybe spotty the coming week as we are once again heading to the United States, providing flights start up again. I'll do what I can, but know at least four days of the trip will be without reliable internet.
