Kelmarsh Tunnel

An unusual dog walk today took us to this disused railway tunnel. The line opened in 1859 and the original tunnel was single track and when the line doubled a second single track tunnel tunnel was built. Due to the small bore the tunnels were known as the rat holes by train drivers. It was completely dark and we needed torches to see our way.
