Migrating cranes

I went for a walk in the woods and at one point in the silence I heard far distant birds calling. I think now they were migrating cranes moving from Easten Europe on a brisk north-easterly to fly down the west coast of Italy and cross the Mediterranean by the short Sicily Libya crossing. You can see them in the magnifying ring in the photo. Their calls from that distance and height sounded more like a rolled ‘r’ purr than their raucous close-up calling. More on Crane flyways through Italy below.

An extra of the wild pear tree flanked in left by walnut and olive and on right by hazel. I struggle to capture the brilliance of the autumn colours.

And those strange and abundant Spindle tree fruits .

And Old Man’s Beard - wild clematis
