Last beans

I've been harvesting, shelling and oven-drying a lot of beans this week.

Every year, there's always a first and a last on the plot and this is the very last batch.

There's a French saying to describe a situation that can't get worse: "C'est la fin des haricots" (literally 'This is the end of beans") and it's definitely sad to see the bean tunnel looking bare.

But then again, there will be new exciting firsts come spring and you need endings to truly savour beginnings...
