Burnt Rice

The day did not start well. We slept in (not like us at all!) so we had to dash across town to get our bus to the Albufera Natural Park, the largest freshwater lagoon in Spain and where paella was invented. It’s surrounded by rice fields. Made the bus with seconds to spare. Very stressful and to make matters worse, the bus was crowded and a middle-aged man offered me his seat. I may have to reconsider not dyeing my grey hair! Thankfully the day improved. We took a boat trip out into the lagoon. The rice harvest was in so the rice plants were being burnt. A pall of smoke hung over the lagoon. After the trip we pushed the boat out (groan) and enjoyed a delicious paella at one of the recommended restaurants. Quick swim on the beach before we headed back to our flat.
