Scarlet waxcap

I do love a waxcap! (golden waxcaps coming tomorrow) I'd never seen one before last year but being in the right place at the right time, and probably in the right mood, I discovered them last year. I had no idea that we had such brightly coloured gems in our commons and woodlands. These first ones of 2021 are a bit later than last year. These three look as though they're marching out of the grass. They're about the size of the top of my thumb, from the nail up if that makes sense. So it takes a while to find one but once you've got your eye in, you'll see loads. 

Next treat will be to find the even-harder-to-spot parrot waxcap in all its shiny greenness.
