Uncertainty
Whether or not we were going to make it to Arran today was very unclear. Cancellations, diversions, changes of plan. We were about 10 minutes away from Ardrossan, when we were told to go to Gourock. So our 15.20 from Ardrossan became a 16.30 from Gourock, and our 1 hour ferry journey became 2.5 hours. We were very pleased to make it though. I was travelling with a colleague who rarely gets a chance to go on site, and lives in the middle of Glasgow, very near to all the COP26 goings-on, complete with squinty bridge full of armed police.
We couldn't make our dinner reservation though, and places were either closed, booked up or "RESIDENTS ONLY". It was looking like instant noodles at the B&B, but we took a chance on Auchrannie, and they took pity on us. (Very interesting to see how things are for a vegan when eating out, though it seems to be getting better.)
Very friendly at the B&B - they of course knew our island colleague, who seems like a local celebrity. I will miss him when he retires next year. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his job, and he just has a lovely manner.
