Sycamore avenue at the front, newer mixed broadleaved and conifer behind, then Sitka and Larch from the 50s and 70s behind that.

You can hear about what's going on with larch in Arran, by watching this episode of Landward. Phytophthora ramorum making things very challenging at the moment.

I love larch. I described it in the thing I wrote for the Love of Trees book, but it didn't make the cut: In spring, the branches festooned with soft tassels of luminous lime green, and flowers like miniature pineapples; in summer lofty and bright, emerald branches reaching up to greet the sky; in autumn the feathery clusters fading from chartreuse to a warm, gingery gold, before once again becoming bare in winter, tiny brown cones nestled among its slender branches.
