Pumpkin party

I don’t really love pumpkins.  There are nicer squash to look at and to eat and the Halloween thing has got so out of control but at least they are organic as opposed to the mountain of plastic in the shops. Our local farmer has a very profitable pumpkin patch and I can only assume this is the surplus that he’s offloaded onto his cattle, who don’t seem that interested. I contemplated climbing through the fence and pinching one but…see above. 

A friend of Vikram who is an American academic and writer is over for a dinner to celebrate her forthcoming  book.  Her publishers gave a dinner for a group of writers who had to do a ten minute turn after dinner; not surprisingly Ed Milliband aced his.  She is staying tonight and brought us a truly huge box of chocolates.
