Dalkeith Palace
In Dalkeith Country Park, where T and I did a short walk. The park is owned by the Duke of Buccleuch who is the largest landowner in Scotland. It was built on to an earlier castle by the architect James Smith in 1710. The park is known for its ancient oaks and it lies between the Rivers North and South Esk just outside the Edinburgh City boundary. It has a fine Adam Bridge, a remarkable Orangerie and 18th Century stables. These have now been converted to Restoration Yard which houses a restaurant, cafe and shops. The palace currently seems to be unoccupied which seems a shame.
As you can see, there was blue sky today which was a wonderful surprise after so much rain in the past week.
