The Holy Mountain

The name of this mountain in Welsh is Ysgryd Fawr. Ysgryd means something that has shivered or been shattered. Legend has it that a part of the mountain (at the top of the treed area) broke away at the moment of Christ's crucifixion. You can see that better here.

The mountain is known in English as The Skirrid or the Holy Mountain. In times gone by people using to climb to the summit on Good Friday carrying a cross. There are the clear remains of a mediaeval church at the summit.

I was out walking with the Friday Walking Group. We had a good walk of about five miles. R, One of our number, lives on our route, so we stopped at her house to eat our sandwiches and other packed goodies, augmented by R's delicious cheese scones.
