Pantry

This is the Cellarium at Mottisfont Abbey. It dates from the early thirteenth century and is the most complete part of the medieval monastic building to survive.

A cellarium is from the Latin cella, meaning store-room; hence the title, "pantry". Also known as an undercroft usually in a medieval monastery or castle.

Jane and I shifted the bark this morning. As we ate breakfast the sun was shining, by the time we got into the garden the clouds had rolled over and it became quite cold; good job we had physical work to keep us warm.

This afternoon we went to Mottisfont, I took a good photo of Adam before he realised I had the camera pointed at him, but I promised I would not use it. After a walk along the river and around the grounds we had tea in the cafe and then I headed into the cellarium while the other browsed the second hand books.
