It was the screeching corella
That made me look upward
And for a moment the sun
Found obscurity
Behind the fork of the tree
The bird stopped and watched me
As I watched it
Until it lost interest
And we both moved on
I disturbed a couple of kangaroos resting in the shade
And they took off across the paddock
But the sound they made
Once past the fence line
Was no louder
Than the buzzing of insects
